The series of essays is itself a review of two books about van Meergeren, and raises compelling questions about authenticity, wartime collaboration, whether artwork possesses intrinsic value, and many more issues.

Errol Morris' first film is "The Thin Blue Line," in which he constructed a Roshamon-like exploration of a crime. He's quite good at exploring alternative realities.

http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/05/27/bamboozling-ourselves-part-1/Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16096012.post-82864194078995081542011-04-02T14:44:16.160-07:002011-04-02T14:44:16.160-07:00Congratulations, RTD!Congratulations, RTD!Astrocrabpuffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03567708208155050122noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16096012.post-87328663176076678412011-04-02T12:03:09.872-07:002011-04-02T12:03:09.872-07:00Way to go Roger!Way to go Roger!Nate Maashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08205088028505450499noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16096012.post-52645958303340090072011-04-02T09:15:48.074-07:002011-04-02T09:15:48.074-07:00I see Roger did it again! Van Meegeren did not copy a great painting and try to pass it off as an original but created new originals of his own. He faked 6 Vermeer's in all, these were put onto the market as new discoveries.
He only got a 1 year sentence but died before he went to jailRTDnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16096012.post-86764627948435861412011-04-02T08:28:04.579-07:002011-04-02T08:28:04.579-07:00Han Van Meegeren a Dutch painterHan Van Meegeren a Dutch painterRTDnoreply@blogger.com
