Today, I finally figured out what S.F.A. was.  It is an initialism for Stella Friends Academy, a school about five miles from Cherokee, Oklahoma, in operation from 1897 to 1922.

  1. that's so cool -- Miss Jessie Burrows attending the Stella Friends accademy and receiving postcards. I am enjoying these. I have about 50+ of my own (ancestors and AIL) I should do something similiar . . .

  2. At last the mystery has been solved! I had guessed it was a school but couldn't find anything except more recent venues that post-date the cards.

  3. Wow, lots of languages on the upper left of the stamp side...I think I see French, German, Dutch, Polish, Russian. Italian...not sure of these labels, but golly, people were multicultural back then...I like the old postcards, there are also some at

  4. Nance, I actually think given the time frame she was probably a music teacher rather than a pupil at Stella Academy. You really should post your collection too. That would be fun.
