Place-of-Mystery

Well, I'm still behind at work.  I've got lots to catch up on and the website is kind of taking a backseat right now.  However, I'm going to try and continue to at least post on the weekends for the time being.

Today I'm going to mix it up a bit and give you something a little unique.  Today is the inaugural Nate's Nonsense Place-of-Mystery Contest.  Below you will find a stylized image of a place somewhere in the world.  The winner will be the first one who can tell me where it is and what it commemorates.

Good luck!

Place-of-Mystery, Outside Aerial View

Place-of-Mystery, Inside View

So, where could this be?  That's the mystery!  Go ahead and take a guess and then go enjoy your day.  Check back tomorrow and I'll reveal the answer.  The first correct post will be declared the winner.

If you'd like to make sure that your guess is correct, enter this place name into Google Images and photos like these will be found on the first pages of the image results.

What a great idea! I like it better than PersonOM, but I still haven't a clue where it is. I will at least guess that it is not in North America. Odd that the diagonal path seems to just fade away.

Thanks, Judi. Maybe someone will be able to recognize it or figure it out based on some clever Internet searching.

Got to be the Taj Hahal

That is Taj Mahal

No it isn't

DADD, thanks for the guess, but as you correctly pointed out, it is not. The Place-of-Mystery contest continues!

William Randolph Hearst's Home, Hearst Castle

Seems to me like a memorial constructed in relatively modern times, for a European war. I think it will be either in Europe somewhere, or maybe California. I tried Crusades, Verdun, Somme, Gustavus Adolhpus, no luck! But I had fun looking. Thank you, Nate!

Anon, it is not Hearst Castle although that is here in our county and would have been a good choice. Virgil, you are on the right track. Thanks for the attempt.

Perhaps it's a mausoleum rather than a memorial?

It looks like Grant's Tomb - the structure does, but the exterior doesn't fit.

Nice variation of the POM. I admit I'm stumped after searching for a few ideas along the "knights" I thought maybe Glastonberry abbey final resting place of King Arthur.
Being on the wrong course of searching still made for some interesting internet finds.
Good job Nate.

@ Virgil S.: try Napoleon (or Germany)!

One day when I've got more free time (and a better car) I step into my automobile and drive to this city.
