Person-of-Mystery

In case you’re not aware, the mystery photo world was shaken recently by the revelation that Google Images now has a pretty good image search.  This was news to me.  I was aware that technology existed that could identify some images, but I was not aware that it had gotten so good.
After much thought, I came close to abandoning the Person-of-Mystery contest altogether.  However, I would hate to have to do this, so I’m going to try and modify the contest by providing a stylized photo that you will be able to recognize from other online images if you crack and solve the cipher (or just plain recognize the image).
The game will just have to stay one step ahead of the technology:

zpv tpmwfe uif dzqifs gps uijt ujnf,
cvu dbo zpv dsbdl nz mjuumf siznf?
uijt nbot xpsl jt opu ijt pxo
boe uispvhi bopuifst obnf ift lopxo.
dbo zpv tpmwf uijt tdsfxz ubmf
ps epft uijt sjeemf mfbwf zpv qbmf?

So as always, take a guess and then check back tomorrow for the answer.  The first correct post will be declared the winner!

Thank you for this effort. I have no idea who this is, but I will try to play detective.

you solved the cypher for this time, but can you crack my little rhyme? this mans work is not his own and through anothers name hes known. can you solve this screwy tale or does this riddle leave you pale?

I think I got the crypto, but am still trying to figure out his identity

Is it Walt Disney?

mary said...

Ooops, Meredith, I think you have it.

No correct guesses yet, but a lot of great tries. Good job on the crack, Rubodo!

OK, one more time. Guessing that there are clues in some of the words - rhyme, screwy, riddle, pale - Could it be Bob Kane, the creator of Batman?

Nate Maas said...

I like your thinking, but it is not Kane.

Samuel Clemens/Mark Twain

Nate Maas said...

DADD, it is not Twain.

So what do you think? Too hard? Too different? I'm all ears when it comes to the contest now.

Just so you all are aware, I'm going to try and make the image pop up on the first page of Google image searches if you type in the right name.

Well, I guess I'm out of it. I tried to use the Google images and just don't seem to be able to make it work.

is it Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss)?

Grey, thanks for the guess. Unfortunately, it is not Geisel.

Roger, what I was trying to say was that for my new contests, if you went to Google images and typed in the right name, you'd find the same picture as the one I posted on the first page of images, just in clearer form. I figure between the picture and the clues someone might be able to figure it out.

I think Walt Disney ('this mans work is not his own and through anothers name he's known') was a good idea. My first thought was Carl Barks, but googling Walt Disney results in Ub Iwerks.

Nate Maas said...

Rob, you are correct! It is Ub Iwerks.

Wow, Rob! I have never heard of him before. It will be fun to see what Nate has to say on his next post.
