I'm going to take a quick break from our trip to Yosemite to share a photo with you. I saw this on Wikipedia's featured pictures page and it comes courtesy of the Burton Historical Collection at the Detroit Public Library.
What you're seeing is photo from about 1870 of a pile of bison skulls waiting to be ground into fertilizer.
Bison are amazing creatures. If visit California, you can see a wild non-native heard on Catalina Island, about 22 miles off of Los Angeles. They were brought to the island for a 1924 silent-era film.

Here in Grand Forks, ND, we have aguy that raises bison and has a butcher shop a few miles West of town.
Roger, good to hear from you. That's cool. There's a private ranch that raises bison here in our county, so you can get a bison burger downtown here too. We're a pretty big beef producing county. I was surprised when I went away to college that tri-tip was so hard to find elsewhere.
What a sad photo! Although I DO love bison burgers.
In Holland we have the Party for the Animals. I'm sure their leader won't like your picture, or a bison-burger, haha. Still they have 2 seats in our parliament, they managed to ban slaughter without sedation (to the chagrin of Jews and Muslims).
I hope those are fabric covered seats and not leather – unless there's also a Cotton Plants Rights Party too.
