Person-of-Mystery

Welcome to Cipher Saturday!  You've found the home of everyone's favorite weekend pastime, where a stylized photo of a somewhat famous person from history is provided here for you to identify.

Here's the cipher - I think...
My visage is not one that men will claim brings recall to mind or a knowing exclaim but my name may be found in halls of fame with authors illustrious as Twain and Crane yet sadly my critics cite holes in my work and say I wrote oft with a slant. "It would be so nice if something made sense for a change," but change not - I can't and I shan't. If this rhyme seems crazy and topsy-turvy or outright too bizarre perhaps it would help to flip things around and then look at things as they are.

Good job, Lynn!

Thanks Brian. Thought I knew who it was but can't find a matching image. Oh well, better luck next week.

Good job on the cipher, Lynn!

Since nobody has guessed yet I'll say who I thought it might be. Lewis Carroll seemed a good choice but no matching photo...

Well done with the cipher Lynn,
they seem, on the whole, to be
quite difficult to work out.

As soon as I read your translation I thought of Lewis
Carroll and got Google to confirm this. But I'm very familiar with Carroll's image and knew it wasn't him, but
tried a Google image search
anyway. No I don't think so.

My first thought was Robert
Tressel but couldn't find an
image to confirm this either.
It looks as if Nate will have to enlighten us tomorrow.

Good catch on the quote from Carroll's book, Lynn, but alas he was not the Person-of-Mystery and unfortunately for Ray, neither is it Tressell although I note a similar apparence. The game's still on.
